Why the Morning Peak Already Matters

The Cortisol Read, Honestly

The instinct to "check cortisol" with a blood draw runs into a wall of measurement problems — single samples miss the daily wave, reference ranges are wide, and no result tells you whether your fast is too big. The biomarker-testing topic owns which labs answer what; cortisol testing is rarely the one that answers this. The practical readout is behavioral: sleep quality, morning mood, irritability, recovery, and how the week feels. When those stay stable across a month of fasting, the cortisol question is settled well enough — and when they degrade, no lab result is needed to shrink the dose.
